Job Description

The Parent Educator is responsible for the implementation of family-centered, home-bases services using a model, assessments, planning, and referrals of families to community partners and agencies.

Responsibilities:

• Provide family-centered, home-based services.
• Conduct the enrollment, service planning and implementation of the Parents as Teachers Curriculum focusing on strengths and areas of concern.
• Conduct home-visits, addressing specific goals in the family service plan; conduct developmental screenings; make referrals and establish connections to other community resources identified in the service plan; facilitate educational groups.
• Document services provided to the family and submit required paperwork in a timely well-organized fashion.
• Participate in PAT staff meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings, and other meetings as required.
• Participate in community events and recruitment events.
• Follow agency policies regarding confidentiality and other consumer rights.
• Maintain flexible hours and schedule visits according to families’ needs while not exceeding the 40-hour work week and in adherence with scheduling requirements.
• Represent the agency in a professional manner within the community.
• Work well with other agencies’ personnel.
• Requires working flexible hours as determined by the agency, including some evenings a month and occasionally on weekends.
• Requires extensive travel in the community and working in clients’ homes.
• Requires ability to tolerate exposure to tobacco smoke, domestic animals, household pests, and other conditions common to a variety of home environments.
• Perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

Physical Requirements:

This position normally requires the physical demands of sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting or performing other work requiring low physical exertion, talking, hearing and adequate vision on a regular basis to perform the job requirements. These physical demands are required up to 80% of the time. 

Non-Physical Requirements:

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences, Preferred.
• Associates Degree, Required.

Experience:

• 2 years’ experience working with parents and young children with Bachelors Degree.
• 5 years’ experience working with parents and young children with Associates Degree or equivalent.

Special Skills:

• Knowledge of child development, a range of child rearing practices and issues.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Knowledge of appropriate use of screening materials.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
• Possess good data management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Aptitude for learning new software programs and technology.
• Maintain confidentiality according to professional standards.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) Required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English/Spanish preferred.
• Ability to provide culturally relevant services.
• Value all people, their family culture, heritage, language, and beliefs.

Licensure, Registration, Certification:

• First Aid/CPR certification required.
• Food Handlers Card required.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license and minimum required liability insurance for WA State.
• Must be deemed insurable as determined by Catholic Charities’ liability insurance provider.

Employment is conditional upon:

• Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting when required

Wage Range : $21 to $28 hourly, depending on level of education and experience

Work Schedule : Monday - Friday, 8am to 5pm
